AMNESTY TENURE NOTE
Mohammad Bagheri was appointed as the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces by the Supreme Leader in June 2016. He remained in this position until 13 June 2025, when he was killed in Tehran by an air strike carried out during the Israeli military attack against the Islamic Republic of Iran. Abdolrahim Mousavi was subsequently appointed by the Supreme Leader as the new head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Abdolrahim Mousavi was killed on 28 February 2026 by an air strike carried out during the US-Israeli military attack against the Islamic Republic of Iran and Ali Abdollahi succeeded him.
